Waste Water Collection

Basic Data:

  • Total length of the sewage network: 239.534 meters
  • 60% of the city is covered by the sewage network.
  • Total number of connections: 17.750 connections

Activities Covered by Waste Water Collection:

  1. Building new connection to the sewerage
  2. Maintenance of the existing connections
  3. Sewer cleaning
  4. Cleaning sewerage connections
  5. Pipeline inspection by camera
  6. Connection inspection by camera

The Waste Water Collection (Sewerage) Network

Based on the configuration of the terrain, the city is grouped into eight collection areas; hence there are eight trunk collection sewers – collectors. The collectors are designated by numbers ranging from O to VII.

A general system of channelling is applied in waste water evacuation, i.e. we use the same sewers for both waste and stormwater. Most of the stormwater enters the sewerage through surface water gullies. The sewerage system is gravitational on the whole territory of collection. The sewerage network shows wide diversity in its characteristics, material used and level of construction. About 60% of the planned total sewerage network length has been built so far in a total length of 240 kms.

(Pipeline Inspection and Rehabilitation – PIR)

The Pipeline Inspection and Rehabilitation (PIR) system serves for the visual inspection of the sewerage pipeline by a special camera which is let down in the sewers and by remote controlling the whole network may be inspected.

Owing to this system the fissures, impediments, plugging may be detected in the sewer system and the place for intervention (drilling) may be precisely determined. Since the system is inspected from its inside, there is an opportunity to disclose illegal connections, too. The system is designed so that the video signal, after micro processing, is loaded in the PC through a special video-card, where the data are analyzed by a special programme and entered in the internal data base. The operator directs the camera from a boot and records by the programme everything, which may prove to be interesting. Making photos is provided by the camera’s freeze function, and these are digitalized in the programme and attached to reports. Making videos in compressed divx format is also possible. After the full profile is obtained, a report is generated including all interesting data from the specific segment of the sewerage.

There is an additional option within this programme, namely the recording of the so called height profile, which is important in building new sewerage pipelines, since each sewerage must have some minimum natural downfall. This device is equipped with a downfall measuring sensor, which enables to control the sewerage in view of the investor’s requirements.
